Advanced Fire Fighting
The Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW) is a four-day training course for captains, mates and marine engineers focused on the organization of fire fighting on board.
The training Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW) teaches you skills to lead the firefighting crew during a fire and the communication that goes with it. The international STCW Convention sets legal requirements for the role of a seafarer. Every officer on board must hold a valid Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) certificate. This certificate is valid for five years.
This training course has been certified by the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) under institute code NL007.

This Advanced Fire Fighting training contents:
- The division of tasks and responsibilities;
- Communication;
- Management (of the fire-fighting team and general leadership skills);
- Gathering information/assessing situations/taking decisions;
- Cooperating with the on-shore fire fighting organization during a fire on board;
- Fighting fires involving hazardous substances;
- Techniques for optimal ventilation control;
- The latest developments regarding fire fighting equipment and fire fighting techniques;
- Analysis of incidents involving fire on board ships;
- Practical exercises with specific attention given to general leadership, the management of a fire fighting team and the correct execution of procedures;
- Stability;
- Maintenance management of fire fighting systems and fire detection equipment.
What should I bring?
- Valid identification (passport, identity card, driving license)
- Valid Certificate of Seafarers Examination
- Dry underwear
- Seaman’s book
In order to participate to the training, participants need to have:
- Valid Basic Safety (STCW) certificate
- Valid Certificate of Seafarers Examination
STC NEXT can also provide this medical examination for you.
To be sent prior to starting the course:
- Copy of valid Basic Safety (STCW) certificate
It is important that we receive the required documents in time, otherwise it will not be possible for us to issue a certificate.
Training times:
We expect the participants at 07.45 on the first training day. The following days start at 08.30, all training days end no later than 16.30, unless the participant attends additional training(s).
Language:
The training is given in Dutch. We can organize this training in a different language for groups on request and if necessary with an private interpreter.
Price:
The above price includes registration fee, use of practical tools, teaching materials, lunch, coffee and tea. Please note that the above price does not include VAT.
Particulars:
This course has a five-yearly refresher requirement of the parts that are difficult or impossible to train on board. The course Basic Training Refresher and the combi Basic Training refresher / Advanced Fire Fighting refresher / Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than fast rescue boats refresher are also offered by STC NEXT.
