Combi Basic Safety/Proficiency in Survival Craft Refresher
The training Combi refresher Basic Training and Proficiency in Survival Crafts and Rescue Boats other than fast rescue boats (also known as SCOM1) is a three-day refresher training course with which the following certificates can be refreshed:
Basic Training (STCW)
Proficiency in Survival Crafts and Rescue Boats other than fast rescue boats
These certificates are valid for 5 years, everyone on board must attend a refresher course every 5 years to maintain their rating. The training complies with the STCW guidelines and is recognized by the Inspectorate for the Environment and Transport (ILENT).
During this training, delegates will deal with realistic situations that may arise on board. The training zooms in on personal survival techniques, fire safety and control, first aid for accidents, safe working practices and social responsibility on board.
This course is certified by the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) under institute code NL007.

In addition to theory, you will practice extreme conditions at sea in our simulation pool. This Combi Basic Safety/Proficiency in Survival Craft Refresher Training STCW section A VI-1 & A VI-2-1 contents:
- Personnel Safety and Social Responsibility theory and practice.
- Elementary First Aid theory and practice.
- Survival Techniques theory and practice.
What should I bring?
- Valid identification (passport, identity card, driving license)
- Valid Certificate of Seafarers Examination
- Dry underwear
- Seaman’s book
To be sent prior to starting the course:
- Copies of all 2 valid certificates
- Copy of the first page of the Seamans book
- Copy of the Certificate of Competency
It is important that we receive the required documents in time, otherwise it will not be possible for us to issue a certificate.
This course has a five-yearly refresher requirement. If you also hold a Basic Safety (STCW) and/or Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (PSCRB) and/or Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) certificate that will also expire shortly, you can combine the relevant refresher courses:
SCOM1: Basic Safety refresher+ Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats refresher
SCOM2: Basic Safety refresher+ Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats refresher+ Advanced Fire Fighting refresher
SCOM3: Basic Safety refresher+ Advanced Fire Fighting refresher
In order to participate to the training, participants need to have:
- Valid Basic Safety (STCW) certificate
- Proficiency in Survival Crafts and Rescue Boats other than fast rescue boats (PSCRB) certificate
- Valid Certificate of Seafarers Examination
STC NEXT can also provide this medical examination for you.

Training times:
We expect the participants at 07.45 on the first training day, the training starts at 08:30. The following days start at 08.30. All training days end no later than 16.00, unless the participant attends additional training(s).
Language:
The training is given in English. We can organize this training in a different language for groups on request and if necessary with an private interpreter.
